Oregano oil is considered to be the ultimate antibiotic by the world’s top health experts and scientists, and now we finally know the reason why. But in order to find out it’s main purpose, how to unlock its full potential and use it, we first must go back to the most simple definition of oregano.
For starters, it is a potent herb with unique healing properties, thanks to the fact it possesses eight times more antioxidants than apples, and three times as much as blueberries. For anyone who might not be following, antioxidants are essential for our bodies to protect them against free radical damage and boost the immune system.
The first people to fully examine the oregano herb, discover its miraculous effects and benefits were the Greeks, who used it for medicinal purposes, such as a powerful antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral and anti fungal agent, but at the same time as a potent remedy for inflammation and pain, as well as conditions related to the respiratory and digestive systems.
While the herb itself is used mostly for culinary purposes, the oil which is created from the oregano herb, is a whole other story. For starters, the oregano essential oil is a mineral density powerhouse, as it contains calcium, zinc, magnesium, potassium, boron, copper, manganese as well as tons of vitamins. On the other hand, it contains four main groups of chemicals which act as healing agents:
Phenols, along with thymol and carvacrol act as antiseptics and antioxidants. On the other hand we have Terpenes, which comes along terpinene and pinene – known for possessing antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anesthetic properties. Then comes Linalool and borneol, which are two long-chain alcohols found in the essential oil. They have antiseptic and anti fungal properties. The last on the list of healing agents are Esters (geranyl acetate and lineally acetate). Both of these possess healing properties.
And while this may sound as oregano oil is the answer to all of the conditions related to an individual’s health, there is one thing to always keep in mind – not all oregano oil is equally powerful and effective!
While choosing the less-effective or an uncertified brand of oregano oil won’t harm your health or cause some unbearable and unpleasant side-effects, it also won’t provide you with the desired effects and help boost your health in many ways. That is why when choosing oregano oil, either go for the organum vulgare type or the thymus capitatus.
